At the end of the 20th century, the Egyptian history has recommenced its glory in papermaking when Quena Paper Industry Co. has been established and running the worldwide fastest machine to manufacture newsprint from Bagasse pulp .

Egypt being so poor in forestry had resort to agricultural residues in the manufacture of paper necessary for spread of culture and the promulgation of a wide educational policy. Bagasse was the most promising agricultural residue for papermaking. Bagasse fibers are those that remain when sugar canes are crushed to remove their juice. These fibers are then depithed and cooked by soda process and then bleached to produce bleached pulp for newsprint and fine papermaking. Bagasse as a raw material for papermaking became in the forefront in the last few years and it promises to become a major raw material for papermaking pulp because Bagasse fibers have a length and width intermediate between coniferous and deciduous trees. The first stock on wire was effected on 20 November 2000 and then first paper on popereel was produced on 11 December 2000.
