According to some indications, papyrus was used by the ancient Egyptians for about 5000 years before the papermaking process was invented .A definite invention date of papermaking which was the base of paper industry is not known but it is commonly agreed to cite AD105 as the date of invention of papermaking by the Chinese Emperor's imperial guard named Ts , ai Lun .

At the end of the 20th century, the Egyptian history has recommenced its glory in papermaking when Quena Paper Industry Co. has been established and running the worldwide fastest machine to manufacture newsprint from Bagasse pulp .

Egypt being so poor in forestry had resort to agricultural residues in the manufacture of paper necessary for spread of culture and the promulgation of a wide educational policy.
